Ages

  • Open to children in Year 2 through to Year 6 (based on the 2026 School Year)
  • Recommended proficiency: Able to swim 20 metres freestyle and tread water
  • For 2026/27, we are considering boys and girls only team configurations (see above).
  • The final divisions will be dependent on the number of teams nominated
  • Year 2/3 (boys, girls, mixed) Based in 2026 school year
  • Year 4/5 (boys, girls, mixed) Based in 2026 school year
  • Year 5/6 (boys, girls, mixed) Based in 2026 school year
  • Part way through the season, each division will be split into divisions ensure more even games

Season 2026/27 FlippaBall season

Our popular Friday night FlippaBall competition will be back for term 4, in the Water Polo Pool at the HPC in Mt Claremont.

    • Team Registrations will be open in August 2026 with players registrations planned to open soon after.


    Plans for the 2026/27 season include..

    • Live Game Scoring Live game scoring helps us split teams mid-season for closer, more exciting matches. Every pool will have a central scoreboard so players, parents, and supporters can follow the action as it happens.
    • Fixtures and Ladders These will be online throughout the season, however they are used purely for grading purposes rather than determining overall champions.
    • Grading The first 4–5 rounds will be treated as grading games, after which teams will be divided into divisions to create more evenly matched competitions.
    • Divisions There is also the possibility of further movement between divisions if required, ensuring the competition remains as balanced and enjoyable as possible for all players.
    • Finals for EVERY Team + Personalised Medals! No matter where your team sits on the ladder, you’ll get a shot at a finals experience in the last round (1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th, 5th vs 6th). Afterwards, every player will be presented with their own name engraved medal – a keepsake to remember the season and inspire them for the next! 🏅
    • Sunday Rounds To work around Torpedoes’ Friday night fixtures, we’re likely to require at least one Sunday game to ensure a full season. More info to come on this once the Torpedoes fixtures are confirmed.
    • Mixed Teams Based on feedback from families and our experience during the 2025/26 season, FlippaBall will continue to offer mixed teams for the 2026/27 season. To maintain a fair, safe and enjoyable playing environment, all mixed teams will be required to have at least two boys and at least two girls in the water at all times. This approach preserves the social and developmental benefits of mixed competition while ensuring appropriate team balance throughout each game.


    As always, the BBQ will sizzle and the Polo Bear Café will be available for refreshments.
    FlippaBall is a social introduction to water polo for boys and girls in years 2-6. The rules are modified, with the field, goals and ball reduced in size to suit the age of the participants. Players are able to form their own teams (10 players optimal) or be placed in appropriate teams. The pool is divided in to quarters.

    • Games have a duration just under 30 minutes (4 x 5 minute quarters)
    • Likely to be held at 4.15pm, 4:45pm, 5.15pm, 5:45pm, 6.15pm, 6:45pm, 7.15pm
    • Games are scheduled in the order shown below (youngest to oldest)

    FlippaSwim (Training)

    FlippaSwim is a structured, water polo specific training session that develops swimming ability, leg strength and balls skills.

    After school sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons:

    • 4pm-4:15pm Swimming Session
    • 4:15pm-4:45pm Water Polo Training
    • 4:45pm-5pm Mini Games

      • Fees for 2026/27 Training:
      • 20 weeks commencing Tue 29 September
      • Tuesdays only: $100
      • Thursdays only: $100
      • Both Days: $150
      • No Entrance Fees
      • Family discount for 2nd and subsequent children (20%)
