Water polo season 2016/17

 Our popular Friday night FlippaBall and Saturday morning District Schools Competitions are back this season in the Water Polo Pool at HBF Stadium!

The major focus of these programs is for children to have fun, in a safe, family oriented, aquatic environment.  The BBQ will sizzle on Friday nights and Saturday mornings and the Polo Bear Café will be available for refreshments.

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIPPABALL

FlippaBall is a non-competitive social introduction to water polo for boys and girls in years 2-6. The rules are modified, with the field, goals and ball reduced in size to suit the age of the participants.  Players are able to form their own teams (8-9 players optimal) or be placed in appropriate teams.  The pool is divided in to quarters.

  • Term 4 (2016) – 8 Rounds, 21 October – 9 December 2016
  • Term 1 (2017) – 8 Rounds, 3 February – 31 March 2017 (no game Friday 3 March, 2017)
  • Games have a 30 minute duration and are held at 6pm, 6.30pm, 7pm and 7.30pm
  • Younger children play at the earlier time slots

AGES

    Note: 2004 born players MUST be in Year 6 at school to play on Friday nights
  • Year 2 & 3 teams are mixed. Years 4-6 have separate boys and girls teams.
    Note: Team composition is dependent on number of registrations
  • Recommended proficiency: Able to swim 20 metres freestyle and tread water

COST

  • $195 plus pool entry to HBF Stadium

FlippaBall players are encouraged to register for FlippaSwim to complement and improve their FlippaBall game.

FlippaSwim is a 60 minute, structured, water polo specific training session that develops swimming ability, balls skills, length strength and team play.  After school sessions are offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

SATURDAY MORNING DISTRICT SCHOOLS COMPETITION (DSC)

The very popular Saturday morning District Schools Competition is an intra club competition played by girls and boys in years 5 and above, who have played FlippaBall or are capable swimmers.  The DSC is about enjoying social water polo with friends.  It is also a great way of gaining experience and progressing through to the Under 14 Junior State League Water Polo Competition on Monday nights.

Players from schools or districts are encouraged to nominate their own teams. Individually registered players will be placed in teams. Teams play a round robin competition with finals.  The pool is divided in to thirds for Year 5/6 and half for Years 7+. 47a4dc00b3127cce98549267472c00000038100AZs3LZm5csWuA

SEASON

  • Term 4 (2016) – 9 Rounds, 15 October – 10 December
  • Term 1 (2017) – 7 Rounds, 4 February – 25 March (no game Saturday 4 March, 2017)
  • Games have a 40 minute duration and are held between 8.40am and 12pm

  • Subject to registrations, two age groups: Year 5 / 6, Year 7 +, and two Divisions A&B
  • Boys and girls play separate competitions
  • Recommended proficiency: Able to swim 50 metres freestyle and tread water

As part of FlippaSwim, Saturday District School Competition (DSC) teams can train together on Friday afternoons, (3.45-4.45pm) and practice game structures, in addition to skill development and conditioning.  Eight teams can be catered for in this one hour training session.
